Two Stars And A Wish

My goal in poutama is that I move around the learning space and use appropriate volume with an awareness of other learners.

I am good at having a growth mindset and show this attitude in my learning.

I think my next goal would be a courageous learner.

Big Idea:

Two stars and a wish is when you have two and one wish. Your two stars is what you think your good at. Your wish is what you think you could improve on.

Kapahaka

Description: 
Every monday afternoon some of the students at school like to do kapa haka. Kapahaka is where we do dancing and singing in maori. Sometimes most of the Kapahaka kids do the haka to welcome the new teachers or children to our school.

Big Idea:

At kapahaka I enjoy...

the singing and dancing to all of the songs. And being in competitions.

I am most proud of…

being apart of Kapahaka because i learn more maori and enjoy it.

I find pronouncing the words challenging because…

some words are challenging and are long words.

I am managing this challenge by….

practicing every night and asking help from Brooke.

A personal goal for me is…

to talk about what we are good at and what we could improve on when we are in circle.

Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by...

Writing Portfolio Sample

Description:
My goal in writing is using conjunctions and connectives. I am getting better at using conjunctions by adding one of the conjunctions to start the sentence like so, ing or nor. We had to highlight all the conjunctions and connectives we had in our story's. I am aiming to finish my goal by the end of term three.

I think that you did a good job at writing your story because I think you have a lot of detail. I think you could work on making bigger paragraphs because you have tiny ting little paragraphs you could work on using conjunctions.

Evaluation:
I think I have done a good job of planning and typing my story. But I think I could use a bit more conjunctions in my story. If we were to do this again I would put lots of conjunctions in my story, because that is how I would now I am doing good using my goal.

Math Portfolio Sample

Description:

This term for maths we have been using different strategies to solve problems. We are learning to use the best strategy for each problem and how to use that strategy. The strategies rounding and compensating, equal addition, place value partioning, reversibility. We were given a peice of paper with 4 questions on it. We had to answer the questions by picking and object and using the prices. We also had to use one of t he strategys above. I used reversibility in most of them.

Big Idea:

We were learning different strategies. We learnt them in our math groups. In my poster I have used equal addition maybe even place value portioning, reversibility. But I didn't know how to use rounding and compensating.

I think it's really good because it's neat. Next time I think you should use a different strategy. Eli

I think I did a good on using reversibility. But I used reversibility in most of my working out. So next time I think I could use a different strategy then reversibility. Like rounding and compensating equal addition and a faster strategy.

Said Is Dead

Description:

What is my reading goal? My reading goal is Expand Vocabulary.  Every Monday morning I would book myself in for two Expanding Vocabulary work shops. One is a yellow and one is orange. In Expanding Vocabulary when we come across a word we don't know we would use one of our success criteria. We also used this context clues bookmark.

Success Criteria:

Reread the text to understand unknown words.

Read on to figure out what a word means.

Try to look for the base or root word inside it. Such as Reread. Read is the root word.

Compare and contrasts.

Synonyms.

Big Idea:

 In class we have a Tic-Tac-Toe board. A Tic-Tac-Toe board is a board with a whole bunch of activities based on a goal, two are green and the rest are plain white. The green ones are priorities and the white ones are ones were you can chose what to do. You have to do both greens and one white. This week we only had to do a white activity. The activity I was doing was said is dead. Said is dead is when you find other words instead of said. This activity can help me with my writing because I always use said. But now I found other words I can use them to.

You have done a great job in thinking of those words. Next time you could maybe put them in a sentences so the person looking at your post can understand how to put them in a sentences. Georgia :)

Evaluation: 

I think I did a good job on finding these different words instead of said. I think I could find I bit more words because there weren't that many. And if I had to do this again I would make the background a lighter coulor and the words dark coulors so it is easy to see the words.

Science Portfolio Sample

Description:

A few weeks ago we were making a food web about the food in our lunchbox's. We had to find out what our food comes from and then it all connects back to the sun. A food chain is like a chain that has these animals, insects, plants and the sun. For example the phytoplankton eats off the sun, krill eat the phytoplankton, fish eats the krill, birds eat fish and the killer whale would eat the bird. A food web is  like this.

Big Idea:

In Troy's science group we have been learning about food webs and food chains. We were also learning about what and where our food comes from that was in our lunchbox's. Well yeah all food 
comes from the supermarket but before it gets delivered to the supermarket's what helps make all the
food.

You have done a really good job on your pictures they look great. Next time you could maybe go over the words in vivid to so you can see them better. Georgia :)

Evaluation:

I think I did a great job on making my poster and knowing what they are made of. I think I could make the some of the drawings a bit bigger because most of them are a bit small. If I was to do this again I would make the drawings bigger and go over the words in vivid so I can see the words.
